What Maranatha High School Should/Could Do
November 2, 2025
Remedies Any Reasonable & Functional School Board Would Explore:
- Apology & reconciliation process facilitated by moderator
- Tuition credit or reimbursement where schooling was disrupted
- Assistance correcting academic or athletic records
- Letters to colleges or recruiters clarifying situation
Staff training or policy reform
Disciplinary action for staff who acted unethically
For a Christian school, biblical reconciliation should be offered and pursued
Ensure Whistleblower & Complaint Protections
The board should verify there are clear policies protecting:
- Parents raising legitimate concerns
- Students from retaliation
- Staff who report misconduct
- If policies don’t exist, the board must create them.
Strengthen Governance & Oversight
If donors/board members influence admissions or athletics, the board should consider:
- Recusal policies
- Conflict-of-interest statements
- Independent athletics governance review
- Transparent complaint channels
- No school thrives when power is concentrated without accountability.
For Christian School Boards
A Christian school has an added burden:
- Biblical reconciliation should be real, not performative
- Authority must be humble, not defensive
- The vulnerable must be protected, not punished
- Leaders must “walk in the light” (1 John 1:7)
- Matthew 18 process applies—to staff too
- If a school invokes Scripture to discipline families, it must also apply Scripture to itself.
Final Thought
Strong schools don’t fear scrutiny. They welcome truth because truth protects the innocent and corrects the guilty.
The board's duty is to pursue:
- Transparency
- Integrity
- Fair process
- Care for students first
That's how Christian and ethical institutions remain trustworthy.
