The hypocrisy at
Maranatha High School runs deep. The Pasadena based high school intentionally divided our family, refused to let our younger son re-enroll, changed their story dozens of times as to why that is, and then sent out this email to the whole community...
Mind you our oldest son was at the school, our youngest is out of the school, for no reason other than us
questioning COVID. (However, the rest of the staff knew that was not a good story to tell or a legitimate reason to disrupt a teen's education. My son also happened to be the popular kid on campus, with a ton of friends. So some of my son's friends and parents were asking. So
Matt Shupper, baseball coach and director of admissions, decided the truth didn't sound good to him as the "director of admissions" and took it upon himself to slander our teen son saying our son had an attitude and his grades weren't good and his mom (my wife) was rude to their staff): Shupper Motive: secure the limelight on the football team for his son (since he couldn't make it in baseball) and give him our son's position on the
Maranatha football team. His leverage? His dad was on the board of Maranatha, a donor to the school, and purchased the football coach a brand new Tesla to secure his influence. Shupper's lies and false witness despite the fact that
Maranatha Head of School John Rouse point-blank said to me, "Your boys have done nothing wrong, it's my staff."
So as I wrote about in
previous posts, John Rouse (under pressure from his work wife,
Sonya Witherspoon and board brat Matt Shupper) separates our boys after 2 years of COVID schooling from home while being charged full price, and then Maranatha High School has the audacity to send this email out to the school community. Now in Joe Chai's defense, he was not even at the school when John Rouse did this so I am not blaming Chai, what he writes in this email is how Christian schools should operate! But Maranatha High School didn't and just committed this horrible act to our sons. But the fact that they did this to our son and then dare to send out messaging like this is completely hypocritical of their actions.
The school wrote this literally a month after doing this to our sons:
"The story helps illustrate how strongly Dr. Chai feels that students need to be known. “That’s really at the heart of everything, isn’t it? A desire for belonging,” he said. “To know that there is a community that not only wants, but actually needs you to be your authentic self in order to truly thrive. It dovetails with what educators have known for a long time from frameworks like Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Before you can get to a place of self-actualization and taking risks to become the very best version of yourself, you need to know that this place is safe and champions belonging as its central practice. Similarly, for students at Maranatha to be sufficiently challenged and transformed, they need to be known and honored for who they are.”
Shocking in light of what they had just done, violating everything they hold profess to believe and for what? A question about COVID. But fist fights in the locker room are ok. Sex in the garage is ok. Just don't ask about COVID or mention the sports program - those are Maranatha foe paws.

*As always, we continue to be open to reconciliation with the school and proper restitution for the school's actions. However, Maranatha continues to ignore us, slander us, and false say all kinds of evil against us. For that we rejoice and pray for them while exercising our rights to speak up against evil.
