The long & short of it.

Our experience at Maranatha High School boiled down to this: we spoke up and the school retailiated, plain and simple.

Maranatha High School in Pasadena had a way of doing things which included cheating and forging move paperwork for incoming recruited athletes. In the school's own words it was important for them to keep a positive image in the community and that includes having a good football team. So when I spoke up that the school wasn't following the protocol, Head of School John Rouse snapped! The problem was he couldn't kick us out for that alone - it would be too obvious. Rouse needed to concoct a plan to get us out for another reason....enter COVID. Rouse decided to quarantine our students for being "within 6 feet of a positive case." In 2022!  Not once, not twice, but 3 times. Combined with Christmas break they were out of school for 8 weeks.  Interestingly right after football season ended - they needed our boys on the team for football so he waited until the season ended before doing this.

Rouse knew we would speak up and say something after repeated quarantines for our healthy boys in 2022. So when he called the meeting with us - he immediately said "I've seen the emails and communications with "my staff." My first reaction was, "what emails?" But Mr. Rouse needed to deflect from the real issue - me calling the school out on unethical behavior and make up a new issue which he branded our "disrespectful emails" about COVID - a total lie.

Here's what I wrote after the 3rd quarantine which Rouse deceitfully said was "extremely disrespectful":

This is obviously not "extremely disrespectful" - this was retaliation by the school for calling them out. Instead of repenting and making it right the school went on a fake news PR campaign and began lying more publicly celebrating what a legend and how "amazing" corrupt John Rouse is. It's truly sick and honestly sad. I feel bad for these people but will not be silent either. Honestly, it's sad that local news has stooped to a new low - publishing fake press releases from the school - totally oblivious to the truth.
